In February 2025, Urban League of the Upstate introduced plans for Healing Hands, a public sculpture by artist Bob Doster at the McClaren Institute for Health & Quality of Life. The project was designed to reflect the people whose contributions strengthen the region.

Community Participation, Made Visible

The concept brought together handprints from residents, healthcare professionals, educators, and community leaders. Cast in metal and joined in one installation, those individual impressions would become a lasting expression of collective effort.

Many Hands, One Shared Purpose

The project connected public art with the Institute’s emphasis on health education, community engagement, and quality of life. It recognized that healthier communities depend on relationships as well as resources—and that each person has something to contribute.
