Jane Edna Hunter Scholars Program

Jane Edna Hunter Scholar’s Program: The Jane Edna Hunter Scholar’s Program honors the legacy of Jane Edna Hunter, a pioneering social worker, attorney, and advocate for African American women, by providing academic and mentoring support to students committed to academic excellence, community service, leadership, and interest in the healthcare field.The program is designed to assist high school students who demonstrate strong character, resilience, and a commitment to making a positive impact in their communities. Scholars will engage in a year-long program tailored to those interested in healthcare-related careers direct patient care, technical fields, and administrative roles. Scholars will attend monthly presentations hosted by healthcare professionals and participate in job shadowing activities. Their culminating experience will consist of a service-learning project and a potential summer internship. Throughout the program, scholars will attend college and career fairs and receive assistance with the college application process and resumes.

McClaren Scholars Program

The McClaren Scholars program is an innovative career exploration and development program designed to engage and support underserved youth ages 14–19 who are interested in pursuing careers in the health and medical fields. This program provides hands-on learning, professional mentorship, and real-world exposure to a wide range of health-related occupations, including medicine, nursing, public health, allied health, behavioral health, and biomedical research. Health-related professionals will come from direct patient care, technical fields, and administrative roles.   The program aims to increase awareness, access, and representation of underrepresented communities in health professions by removing barriers and building career readiness. McClaren Scholars will participate in interactive workshops, career panels, field trips to healthcare facilities, and skill-building activities such as CPR certification and resume writing. Internships, job shadowing opportunities, and mentorship from professionals of color will provide meaningful connections and guidance.  Key program components include:  Health career exploration workshops  Site visits to hospitals, clinics, and labs  Mentoring with diverse health professionals  Skill development (e.g., first aid, communication, teamwork)  College and career planning support  The McClaren Scholars program aims to cultivate early interest, boost confidence, and prepare youth for educational and professional pathways that lead to impactful and sustainable health careers, ultimately strengthening the diversity and cultural competence of the future healthcare workforce.
