The Healing Hands Sculpture
The McClaren Institute for Health & Quality of Life, part of the Urban League of the Upstate, is excited to feature the upcoming Healing Hands Sculpture, designed by award-winning sculptor Bob Doster. This public art installation will showcase metal-cast handprints from individuals across the Upstate, celebrating community involvement and shared commitment to health and wellness.
About the Sculpture
The Healing Hands Sculpture is a large-scale metal installation that will be prominently displayed at the McClaren Institute. Each handprint included in the design will come from real people in the community, including residents, healthcare providers, educators, and community leaders. The sculpture symbolizes the many hands working together to support progress and well-being in the Upstate.
Bob Doster, known for his innovative, community-focused metal sculptures, brings decades of experience to this project. His work has been featured in public and private collections across the U.S. and internationally. For more about Doster’s work, visit his Official Website.
How It’s Made
Doster will gather handprints from Upstate residents during community events. These prints will be cast in metal and integrated into the sculpture, forming a design that reflects collective strength and unity. Each handprint will serve as a literal and symbolic reminder of individuals’ contributions to building healthier communities.
Why It Matters
The McClaren Institute is focused on improving health and wellness through education, access to care, and community engagement. The Healing Hands Sculpture complements this mission by recognizing the importance of collaboration and underscoring that positive change comes from many people contributing in meaningful ways.
Community members can leave their mark (literally!) by participating in upcoming handprint collection events. Stay connected with the Urban League of the Upstate to learn when and where you can contribute.
