On Saturday, January 18, we had our annual MLK Dreams in Action Scholarship Breakfast at the Commerce Club. Our emcee was Rhonda Rawlings, News & Community Service Director for Summit Media. The keynote speaker was Juan Johnson, Founder & President of Diversity Leadership in Action.

Kola George, a student at USC School of Medicine – Greenville, delivered the greetings and gave insight into his journey into medical school. Pastor Brian Habig from Downtown Presbyterian Church led us into prayer before breakfast.

This year we awarded eight scholarships totaling more than $180,000. The scholarship applications were evaluated for selection based on transcripts, letters of recommendation, autobiography statement, GPA, financial need and demonstrated leadership and community service.

Our winners were Sydney Beraho from JL Mann High School (Furman University Scholarship – $140,000), Aneri Vasoya from Seneca High School (Clemson University Scholarship – $16,000), Emmanuel Kagiraneza from Spartanburg High School (USC Upstate Scholarship – $12,000), Makendra Seawright from Legacy Early College (Michelin North America CSK Scholarship – $5,000), Jayden Williams from Legacy Early College (Michelin North America MLK Scholarship – $5,000), Cedrick England from Legacy Early College (Carlo & Nika White Foundation Scholarship – $2,000), Juzarius Cruell from Legacy Early College (Carlo & Nika White Foundation Scholarship – $2,000), and Rachel Hill from Westside High School (Greenville Technical College Scholarship – $1,500).
