Prepare for Academic Success

Project Ready is a signature program of the National Urban League (NUL) that seeks to provide enhanced academic and social support to middle and  high school students (6th-12th graders) as they prepare for post-secondary success. Students are expected to make academic progress, benefit from cultural enrichment opportunities, and be trained for school navigational and life skills development. The Project Ready Post-Secondary Success Program is a unique and comprehensive approach to addressing the academic, personal, and social needs of underserved students.

The Project Ready Curriculum integrates academic preparation for college along with life skills development, and a social, global, and cultural awareness. This program works with students and their families to:

Increase college awareness
Improve navigational and life skills
Raise confidence and self-awareness around good decision making
Gain greater understanding and appreciation for one’s own cultural identity and diversity
Understand the correlation between post-secondary success and income

Project Ready Pre-College Enrollment Services

The Project Ready Pre-College Enrollment Services Program provides service to middle and high-school students in Greenville County and prepares them for college enrollment at a two- or four-year college or university through the following services:

Academic Advising
Scholarship Application Assistance
Free SAT and ACT Preparatory Workshops
SAT and ACT Test Fee Waivers (for students who receive free or reduced-price lunch)
College Tours
FAFSA Assistance
College Application Assistance
College Application Fee Waivers (for students who receive free or reduced-price lunch)
Service Learning Opportunities

The annual event of the program includes Senior Signing Day, which is a celebratory day when scholarships are awarded and those who have been accepted into a two- or four-year college or university or who have enlisted into a branch of the United States Military are recognized.

Project Ready Mentor

The Project Ready Mentoring Program matches students (grades 6th-12th) with mentors in one-on-one relationships for an academic year. Through these relationships, as well as recreational and group activities, our matches share friendship, support, and fun. Mentors and mentees get together at least once a week. Both mentors and mentees make a commitment to spend time together throughout the academic year. The mentors are not private tutors, although sometimes pairs decide to work on homework together. Group activities are planned on a monthly basis and open to all participants.
